The Martian Review

When a freak accident happens on a mission to Mars occurs, Mark Watney is believed to be dead as the rest of his crew abandons the mission. Instead, he survives. Now he must find a way to survive on a barren wasteland of a planet.

AWESOME BOOK!!!! Loved it so much! It's super sciencey at times and that got confusing. However, the book had a ton of humor in it. One of my favorite parts of the book was the people at NASA after they realize he's alive, "'He's stuck out there. He thinks he's totally alone and that we all gave up on him. What kind of effect does that have on a man's psychology?' He turned back to Venkat. 'I wonder what he's thinking right now.'" Then it goes to Watney's log: "How come Aquaman can control whales? They're mammals! Makes no sense." There are just awesome jokes throughout the book to make the situation a bit lighter. Because let's be honest a man abandoned on Mars is kind of dark. However, all the characters bring their own humor to the story. I fell in love with all of them because of this.

The story was very extreme and some of what happened just seemed to be a little too much drama at times. However, Watney would also that kind of stuff was inevitable and he would expect something dangerous that he probably shouldn't have survived from and then make jokes about it. This also kept me engrossed in the book, as I would always be kept on the edge a little as to what kind of near death experience he'd have next.

The book is a little more mature, just a warning! It does have the f word a bunch. I'm pretty sure the movie (I'm so excited for it!) is going to be rated R for this reason too. Also, Matt Damon is going to be playing Watney in the movie. More exciting though, in my opinion at least, Sebastian Stan is going to be in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely one of my top celebrity crushes. He's going to be playing Chris Beck, one of the astronauts originally on the Mars mission. He doesn't have much of a role in the beginning, but he is more important towards the end! Hopefully the movie will be good and the humor will be able to transfer!

This book was an amazing Sci-Fi book, definitely one of my favorites now. I think everybody should read it!
